A record number of applicants for the 2024 London Marathon
For the first time in history, more than half a million people have applied for a marathon.
The results of the 2024 TCS London Marathon Ballot were emailed on Thursday 6 July to everyone who entered. A record 578,374 hopefuls from the UK and around the world applied for a place in the race, which will take place on Sunday 28 April 2024.
The London Marathon is one of the most popular marathons in the world, and the ballot is always hugely competitive. This year, the number of applicants was up by 10% on last year, making it the most competitive ballot in history.
The ballot process is random, and there is no guarantee that you will get a place even if you have applied many times before. However, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of success:
- Enter the ballot as early as possible.
- Be a member of a running club.
- Have run a marathon before.
- Have a good charity fundraising record.
If you are not successful in the ballot, you can still enter the race through one of the official charity places. These places are available to runners who are willing to raise money for a charity.
The 2024 London Marathon is set to be a special event, as it will be the first time that the race has been held since the COVID-19 pandemic. The race will also be part of the build-up to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
